Can you get burned by Laser Hair Removal?
Unfortunately, the honest answer is yes. But our modern machines - as well as our 10 yr experience in offering light-based hair removal - means the risk is low. As with all treatments - like taking medicines - there is always a risk of negative outcomes. We do everything possible to reduce the risk, for example by always conducting a patch test, carefully assessing your skin type and taking detailed medical background information from you before treatment begins. Reasons for burning are often due to sun or sunbed exposure either before or after treatment, fake tan present on the skin, changes in medication or hormone levels, but the most common cause is when hair is not shaved close enough to the skin. If a little bit of stubble is poking out of an area we are treating, the laser effectively 'burns' that bit of hair, which then causes the skin around it to burn too. That's why it's so important you shave really well on the morning of your appointment. We will obviously go over it too with our razor before treatment, but the better job you do at home, the lower the risk of any nasties happening.
