How to Get Your Legs Ready for Spring: 3 Things to Do This Week
05 May 2026
There's a moment every spring when you glance down at your legs and think: not quite ready. Pale, dry, and a bit forgotten after months under thick tights and winter layers. If you're nodding along, you're in good company.
Before you reach for an expensive cream that promises to fix everything (more on why that won't work in a moment), here are three simple, affordable things you can do at home this week to genuinely make a difference to how your legs look and feel.
1. Dry Body Brushing: The One Thing That Actually Helps Cellulite
If you've ever stood in a pharmacy wondering which anti-cellulite cream to buy, here's something worth knowing. A BBC study on anti-cellulite products found that nothing applied to the surface of the skin reaches deep enough to make a real difference. Cellulite forms in the deeper layers of tissue. Topical creams simply can't get there.
The one thing scientists did find genuinely helped? Dry body brushing.
It's inexpensive, takes about five minutes, and anyone can do it. A few times a week, before your shower, work a dry brush in small circles over the areas that bother you most. Use a bit of pressure. Within a couple of weeks, you'll start to notice a difference in texture and circulation.
If you need a brush, we stock a brilliant rubbery nodule one at the salon for just £5.
How to dry body brush: Always brush on dry skin, before you shower. Start at your feet and work upward toward the heart, using firm circular movements. Avoid any broken or irritated skin.
2. The DIY Coffee Scrub: A Triple-Whammy for Tired Legs
Don't throw away your used coffee grounds. They're one of the best free skincare ingredients you probably already have at home.
Here's why coffee works so well on legs. It's naturally rich in polyphenols, which help protect skin from environmental damage and give it a healthy glow. Caffeine is a natural vasoconstrictor, which means it can temporarily reduce puffiness and help skin look firmer and smoother. And the grounds themselves make a gentle but effective physical exfoliator.
How to make the scrub: Mix used coffee grounds with one to two tablespoons of coconut oil. Massage the mixture over your legs before you shower. For tougher areas like knees, add a handful of coarse salt for a bit more grit.
Rinse off in the shower, pat dry, and notice how different your skin feels.
3. Fake Tan Without the Fear: A No-Streak Method That Works
If dry brushing and exfoliating have given your legs a new lease of life but they're still a little on the pale side, a hint of colour makes a big difference. Sunbeds aren't worth the risk, and staying out in early spring sunshine for a tan isn't going to give you results either. Self-tan is the smart option, but it has a reputation for going wrong.
Here's the method that makes it almost impossible to streak.
Mix a small amount of self-tan in with your usual body moisturiser. Diluting it this way gives you much more control and massively reduces the chance of patchy colour. Apply it evenly all over, then take a dry clean flannel and gently buff over your ankles and knees. Those areas tend to absorb more colour, so a light buff keeps everything looking seamless and natural.
Your full spring leg routine: Dry brush on dry skin, apply the coffee scrub, shower, then apply the moisturiser and tan mixture. Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards, right up to the wrists. No tide marks, no orange palms.
Start Now and You'll Be Ready
Give this routine a week or so and your legs will be genuinely ready the moment the first warm day arrives. These aren't expensive treatments or complicated regimes. They're simple, consistent habits that actually make a visible difference.
